Jay Barnes

Jay’s football journey began at the age of 13, when he spent a year playing 11-a-side football as a youth player for Weston Sports. After stepping away from the game for a number of years, Jay returned to 11-a-side football at the age of 24, helping to form his own Sunday league side, Montague FC, alongside his mates.

Although Montague Fc folded after its first season, Jay quickly found a new home with Hearts Athletic, another newly formed Sunday league team. Jay has spent the past two seasons playing for Hearts Athletic in Division 6 of the Southampton Sunday League and will continue with the club this season alongside his involvement with Hedge End Town.

This season marks an exciting new chapter for Jay, as it is his first season playing Saturday football, representing Hedge End Town.

Away from football, Jay works as a concrete repairer an epoxy floor layer, bringing plenty of hard work and graft to his professional life – qualities that are equally valuable on the pitch.
